Join the WFFM

The World Federation of Friends of Museums (WFFM) is an organisation made up entirely by volunteer members. It embraces Museum Friends organisations throughout the world, and aims to promote and strengthen their cultural activities in support of museums.

WFFM members exchange information, newsletters, and publications. They offer an account of their activities during the annual Council and General Assembly Meeting. Furthermore, they are invited to participate in the debates and scientific exchanges that take place every three years during the WFFM World Congress.

Today, WFFM unites over two million individuals who are Friends, volunteers and benefactors of museums. Membership in the Federation offers the opportunity of joining a worldwide network present in 34 countries. The types of WFFM membership were created to satisfy the substantially different needs and aspirations of each category:

Active Members Active Members are national federations of societies of Friends.

Associate Members Associate Members are single Friends associations or small societies.

Individual, Donor and Benefactor Members Individual, Donor and Benefactor Members are individual or corporate supporters of the WFFM.

Active Members

The Active Members of WFFM are national federations or groups of associations of Friends of museums, duly constituted according to the regulations in each country and having legal personality. There is only one national federation for each member country of the World Federation.

To become an Active Member, the national federation is required to submit an application form with a copy of its by-laws to the WFFM Secretary General, who will then present it to the Executive Committee for evaluation.

The admission and registration of a new Active Member is made by the Executive Committee, approved by the Council and ratified by the General Assembly at the annual meeting of the Council and General Assembly.

Associate Members

The Associate Members of WFFM are individual associations of Friends of museums duly constituted according to the regulations in each country and having legal personality, which are not grouped in a national federation. Individual associations of Friends of museums can become Associate Members of WFFM regardless of whether there is a national federation in their country or not.

To become an Associate Member, an individual association of Friends of museums or a group of associations of Friends of museums is required to submit an application form with a copy of its by-laws to the WFFM Secretary General, who will then present it to the Executive Committee for evaluation.
The admission and registration of a new Associate Member is made by the Executive Committee, approved by the Council and ratified by the General Assembly at the annual meeting of the Council and General Assembly.

Individual, Donor and Benefactor Members

Individual, Donors and Benefactor Members are individuals or corporations that financially support the WFFM and its international purposes. These members are entitled to attend the annual General Assembly and the special cultural programs organised by the association hosting the event.
To become an Individual, a Donor or a Benefactor Member it is necessary to send a written application to the Secretary General and contribute the prescribed annual membership fee.
