2nd European Day of Friends of Museums

On Sunday 8 October 2023, the Italian Federation of Friends of Museum celebrates the 2nd European Day of Friends of Museum which is in continuity with the long tradition of the FIDAM National Day. Unlike the European Day, which has a free theme, the Italian edition identifies a specific subject, which this year is "Portrayed landscape-lived landscape".

This is an opportunity for reflection based on a diachronic comparison between an artistic landscape representation, chosen by the associations for its specific identity value, and its physical correspondent in the actual territory considered in its cultural values and ecological fragility.

The poster, significantly set in the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento Capital of Culture 2025, synthesises the theme of the Day by juxtaposing an 1849 view by Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller with the corresponding current photographic depiction of the same subject: the hill temple of Juno Lacinia. The landscape in question is virtually unchanged due to the good policies undertaken, but it will also be important to examine the frequent instances where the landscape is, on the contrary, profoundly transformed, disfigured and in need of regeneration.
